I may have a problem with Reddit. I like talking about media, and Reddit is great for that! Outstanding, honestly, but it's an online space which means that rhetorical devices such as hyperbole, sarcasm, and rhetorical questions are not just likely to be misunderstood; it's practically guaranteed. So when I say somthing like "The Only Acceptable Argument Against the Wachowskis as Great Filmmakers" a lot of responses assume I'm delivering some definitive value judgement. I hope it's clear to readers here I was using hyperbole to be winkingly self-effacing about my adoration of The Wachowskis while challenging my own perspective with an argument against it. Of course there is a definitive lack of nuance to a lot of comments there as well with people assuming I'm either saying the Wachowskis and their films are flawless or that they're terrible. I spent way too much time arguing with people who, quite frankly, I dont need to care about. It was fun and, in places, cathartic, but profoundly unproductive. I spent more time clarifying my position than discussing the Wachowskis' oeuvre. Reddit is well positioned to drag you into pointless discussions with people who don't put in nearly as much effort into the discussion as you.

This is reinforcing the value of the personal website to me. Instead of my musings being delivered to people who, being honest, do not want to read them (either because they don't care or it will make them irrationally angry), my musings are simply made available for those who want to seek them out. Of course this greatly limits shareability and discoverability, but this isn't a numbers game for me. I do wish these posts would engender some discussion, but the lack of a comments section and the only direct way to respond being email basically preempts any possibility of discussion. Take this as a reminder, though, that this site's inbox is always open, and, given I've only ever recieved emails from 2 actual people (and one spam message), you can be confident that I will respond to any message that comes in; likely the same day. In the spirit of avoiding poking at the Matrix fandom on Reddit I, alongside this blog post, have posted a defense of Resurrections specifically and The Wachowskis broadly. Hopefully, my perspective on their work can be, at minimum, entertaining.
