This post is a follow up to the post I wrote on 1/21/2025. Please read that before continuing if you haven't already.

So, I had my second appointment with Equitas today, and came out of it with prescriptions for estradiol, and spironolactone. Estradiol (commonly referred to in the trans community as "E") does what you probably expect it does. It will trigger the development of feminine secondary sexual characteristics. Breast development, fat redistribution, and other such things. Spironolactone (commonly referred to in the trans community as "Spiro") is a testosterone blocker. It will inhibit the continuation of masculine secondary sexual characteristics. So thats the boring medical stuff out of the way what does this mean at the moment. Well it'll be a few weeks to a few months before any noticable differences develop. Though, spironolactone will make me pee more. I'll make sure to mention in my blog when I notice any changes.

I find it interesting, though not fortuitous, that this milestone in my transition occured just a day after President Trump signed an executive order to restrict access (especially by minors) to the very same treatment that I have just started. Both terrifying, and a sort of symbolic act of rebellion I suppose. Though, aren't all acts of rebellion terrifying? Much like the executive order that preceeded my first appointment, my access to gender affirming care was not immediately or meaningfully impacted, and it'll be some days before the executive order is executed. Now is not the time to panic, but it's a pretty safe bet that my access to HRT will be threatened within the next few years. These executive orders are warnings and should be taken as such. Trans people, such as my self, will likely need financial and legal aid in the coming years so donating to trans health care and legal organizations, and hell to trans people individually if you feel so inclined (please, not to me I'm doing fine for the foreseeable future there are others who need it way more) will be a necessity. Especially those that might be reliant on federal funding because that's going to dry up in a hurry. Also, seriously I can't stress this enough. Vote in the midterms in 2026 this time around. Flipping the House and/or the Senate would go a long way toward reducing the harm of Trump's administration.
